'Seeing new velodrome makes me realise how close the Games are. I'll give it ...
TAKING his first look around the awe-inspiring 6,000-seater Olympic velodrome, the usually fast-talking cycling ace Mark Cavendish is momentarily lost for words.Ten gold medals will be won within these curved walls next year. The question is — how many will be won by Britain?
Mark said: "This is now Britain's biggest velodrome and seeing it finished for the first time makes me realise just how close the Games are.
"As always, Britain has a great chance. Cycling is one of our strongest sports.
"If we had only entered the cycling events at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, we would have finished ninth in the medal table. But we have a smaller team this year as there are fewer velodrome events."
Mark, 26, is famous for his confident attitude — but he probably has to deal with more pressure at the Olympics than any other athlete.
The cycling road race is the first event Team GB has a strong chance of winning next year. The squad won gold at the World Championships in Copenhagen, with Mark crossing the line first, making them odds-on favourite in 2012.
