FANTASY: Tolbert, Gates and Novak only safe starts this week
On the other hand, Green Bay’s 13 picks on the season are second only to the Buffalo Bills. Considering that Rivers is leading the league in interceptions with 11, the Packers big-play defense is downright scary this weekend.
It also doesn’t help that Vincent Jackson has been playing through a hamstring injury and has yet to perform up to expectations. Malcom Floyd has been Rivers’ most consistent receiver the last three games – and that’s even scarier than the Packers’ defense. But hasn’t practiced all week and is unlikely to play Sunday.
I don’t like the prospects of any of these three players and you should only start them if you don’t have a better option.
I think Antonio Gates will have a decent game though. The Packers are tied for third in the league touchdowns allowed to tight ends, and Gates is as sure a bet as any one of the Chargers players in the red zone. Again, it’s all contingent on how well Rivers plays. Gates should be the number one target on Sunday and a safe start.
EBAL football roundup: Monte Vista High defense the difference
The Monte Vista High football team isn't known for its defense, but that may change if the Mustangs keep this up.
The Mustangs rode some heroics from sophomore Marco Zamora and a resourceful defense to beat visiting Foothill 12-7 on Friday night in the East Bay Athletic League, one week after Monte Vista earned its first shutout of the season against Amador Valley.
The victory clinched a North Coast Section Division I playoff berth for the Mustangs (5-4, 4-2).
The game turned during a wild sequence in the third quarter. With the Mustangs trailing 7-6, Monte Vista quarterback Jeff Lockie lobbed a deep pass down the right sideline to Zamora on a 78-yard touchdown play, as Zamora eluded attempted tackles by Tyler Lahti and Ryan Anderson before scampering the final 50 yards into the end zone.
On the previous play, Lockie, after lining up as a receiver in the wildcat, made an all-out diving attempt on a deep pass by Troy Johnson that fell incomplete. He caught his breath and found Zamora in stride.
