Recycle reusables: Turn waste into resources
AYER -- "Waste" used to mean stuff that you threw away that ended up in a landfill. Today, recycling waste is multibillion-dollar industry that millions of Americans help advance in the country's clean energy economy.
Yet it can still be difficult, particularly in small towns, to find vendors that will accept items such as used Styrofoam, plastic toys, electronics, furniture.
That's where your local recycling committees step in. Ayer's third multitown Recycle Your Reusables Day is being held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, rain or shine, at Ayer Shirley Regional High School, 141 Washington St.
The event is being cosponsored by MassToss, the recycling committees of Groton, Shirley, and Townsend, and the towns of Bolton, Harvard, Littleton, and Lunenburg.
"But it's open to anyone," said Ayer Recycling Committee Chairwoman Laurie Sabol.
